Codfish Village

It all start when my parents stayed in Toa Payoh area. They found "Codfish Village", a restaurant that sells Codfish. It was located at Lorong 1 Toa Payoh, near Toa Payoh MRT. The fish was very nice, so we decided to go there again.

When we were at Toa Payoh MRT, my sister was joking and said, "What if the restaurant had moved or closed? We need their phone number". I said, "Well.. the fish was nice, and the restaurant was full almost everyday, so I don't think they will close down".

My mom, my sister and her husband make a move to the restaurant first, while me and my dad were waiting for my hubby. Then, my sister called me, "The restaurant had moved to Lorong 7. I think you need to take a bus to go there. We will walk from here.." So, the 3 of us take a bus (No. 153).

The restaurant owner still recognizes us, and she was very happy to see us. She said she had just sold the place at Lorong 1 and moved to Lorong 7 two days ago, and she was glad that we took the trouble to patronize her.

These are what we ordered:

Claypot Codfish Head (Curry) ---> I forgot to check the price -___-! Sorry...

The curry was nice, hot and spicy.. Quite thick and tasty. Mixed with pineapple and eggplant, makes it a good mixture.

The fish head consist of mainly fat and a little bit of meat only.

The meat was quite rough, and it didn't blend in with the curry paste :( My hubby said, it was not too fresh.

Beancurd Fried with Kang Kong - $5 / $7 / $9

The Kang Kong was nice. My hubby likes it very much...

Crispy Baby Sotong - $12 / $16 / $20

This is my mom's favorite. They fried the baby sotong until it's very crispy. It tasted sweet and sour, served with cucumber and pineapple pickle.

Coffee Pork Ribs (Boneless) - $10 / $15 / $20

The taste was quite unique. Not too sweet, but I almost couldn't smell the coffee.

In the end the owner gave us a 20% discount to thank us for visiting them, even though they have moved away :)

Master Crab Seafood Restaurant Pte Ltd (螃蟹师傅)

Last Friday, we went to eat crabs at Master Crab Seafood Restaurant. There were 7 of us.

The restaurant was quite full, especially during public holiday eve.

We ordered a set menu for 6-7 pax, coz the price is cheaper.

1 Crab is around $35-$40/kg

These are what we ordered:

Ginger & Onion Crab

I thought my sister likes onion, so we decided to ordered this dish. But I was wrong.. my sis likes garlic.... and she hates onion -_-!

This dish was quite nice but unexceptional.

Salted Egg Crab

Not much restaurant serve this dish. Master Crab is one of those who serves fantastic salted egg crab. This is my dad's favourite :)

The combination of the crab's meat sweetness with the salted egg yolk stir-fried is simply heaven. It is a must try!!!

Cereal Prawns ($16 / $22 / $28 / $34 / $40)

Even though it is a common dish, but they put a lot of cereal on the prawns. And the prawns were very big and fresh. Wonderfull....

Fried Asparagus with Fresh Scallop ($15 / $20 / $25 / $30)

Stewed Black Mushroom with Abalone ($12 / $16 / $20)

Mmm.... yummy...

Pork's Ribs ($8 / $11 / $14 / $18)

The pork's ribs was tender, but too sweet..

Hong Kong Noodles ($4.30 / $7 / $10 / $12)

It was my brother-in-law's birthday, and we wanted to give him a surprise. We asked him to join us. Unknown to him, we already ordered birthday noodle for him.

When the noodle came, we congratulated him and sang a happy birthday song :)

The noodle was not so special.. Just like common Hong Kong noodle.

Mantou - $1 for 3 pcs

The mantou was a lil bit sweet. I like to deep it in the salted egg crab's sauce...

Total bill: $288 (exclude the mantou)

Tong Fong Fatt Chicken Rice

If you live or pass by Buona Vista area, you must try the famous Tong Fong Fatt Chicken Rice.

It is very different from any chicken rice I ever eat...

The rice was very fragrant and the texture was excellent.

Mmmm.... :)~~

The Chicken Rice set comprises of 1 plate of rice + 1 plate of chicken + 1 bowl of soup...

The meat texture was very good. It was tender and the skin was smooth.. just nice ^^

What makes it different form other chicken rice maybe it's the sauce.. It was like a mixture between ginger and chicken oil.. So fragrant and tasty :)

The chilli is just like other chicken rice chilli. Nothing special. But it doesn't have the citrus lime smell, so I kinda like it :P (I don't like citrus lime XP). My hubby like to mix it with the ginger and paste.

Price :

Chicken Rice set $2.50 / $3.50 per set,

Half chicken $9.00,

Extra Rice $0.50

Rating : 4.5/5
